Mary F. Brunette, a board-certified addiction psychiatrist, has been involved with research and clinical care of patients with severe mental illnesses and co-occurring substance use disorders for over 20 years. Dr. Brunette has developed a program of research to explore causes and correlates of smoking among people with serious mental illnesses and to develop interventions to address smoking in this group and in other disadvantaged populations. Dr. Brunette’s current tobacco research interests include exploring the underpinning of high rates of tobacco use disorder in people with serious mental illness, evaluating the role of new products in nicotine addiction in this group, building and testing more robust, technology-enhanced cessation treatments, and incorporating social networks and incentives into tobacco interventions for people with serious mental illness.
