Dr. McGovern is a Professor of Psychiatry, of Community & Family Medicine, and of The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in Lebanon New Hampshire. He practices through the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and his research is based at the Addiction Health Services and Implementation Research section of the Dartmouth Psychiatric Research Center. Dr. McGovern has received a NIDA career development award and R01 grant funding to translate evidence-based therapies for addition and mental health disorders into routine clinical settings. He has also received awards from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to advance a series of organizational measures of integrated service capacity. These measures, the Dual Diagnosis Capability in Addiction Treatment (DDCAT), Dual Diagnosis Capability in Mental Health Treatment (DDCMHT) and Behavioral Health Integration in Medical Care (BHIMC), have been widely adopted and are being used to implement evidence-based treatments in community settings throughout the United States and internationally. Dr. McGovern has been actively involved in the education of medical students, psychiatric residents and fellows, and clinical psychology interns at Dartmouth and previously at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois. Since 2009, he has been the Editor-In-Chief for the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment (JSAT), the leading scientific journal dedicated to addiction treatment services and implementation research.
